![]() The user interface on the 800's is horrid, there are far too many buttons to press and far too many combinations of buttons to press on both cups. Īstro pip TB on this one for one reason, the 3.5mm audio in is located on the back of the Astro base station where as the on the 800x's they are on the headset, they are meant to be fully wireless after all.īoth have a very positive lock in feel to them, two optic in and mini USB connection.īoth headsets have a very solid build quality but that is where the similarities end. The process of updating the firmware (Which is the first thing I did with the 800x's) is very easy with both pieces of software, both have easy interfaces both are easy to navigate and easy to customise the settings within the headset (which didn't help the horrible sound and white. ![]() Very simple, just follow the links on their websites. Please be aware I sit at a gaming desk so my console / base station / headset and monitor are under 1 meter away from each other ![]() Here my findings when comparing them both. When I received the 800x's I instantly regretted it so I returned them after only three days use and opted for the Astro A50 2016 model. My product purchase history is as follows -ġst) Turtle beach XO4's (still have them as a back up set, they're really good for a basic headset)Ģnd) Turtle beach 420x+ (gave them to my friend as i upgraded to the 800x's)ģrd) Turtle beach 800x (I returned these after three days use, for the reasons below) Since the release of the Xbox One I have had a couple of headsets but they were all from Turtle Beach and to be honest I cheeped out and originally bought the 800x's. Any consumer videos were of one product or the other, never both. In my search for a high end headset I looked high and low on the internet but I couldn't find any consumer comparisons of the two flagship headsets, the Astro A50's and the Turtle Beach 800x Elites, I could only find sponsored videos on YouTube. I just wish I’d tried the Astro brand sooner. You’re left in no doubt whether it’s charging or not and can see if you have Dolby enabled. After 3 hours of play only one bar of the 4 bar battery indicator flashes when I place the headset back on the dock so it seems the 15 hour battery life claim is about right.I’ve had wireless gaming headsets for 10 years and these are far and away the best built and have at least as good sound as any I have had before. I also like the amount of info the basestation gives you from its indicator lights. Look at this if your surround sound doesn’t seem right when first using. They are also light and comfortable, with sensibly places controls which aren’t fiddly to use or hard to remember (compared to 800x). NOTE: out of the box the ‘Astro’ surround sound and ‘Studio’ stereo sound presets were opposite to what the instructions stated. You can also modify this with the software (downloaded separately) which is also very easy to use. Crisp and bassy all at once with a higher volume limit than I’m used to (or actually use). Glad I didn’t.These are very simple to set up and the sound is excellent. Namely the audio drop outs and distortion issues mentioned elsewhere which I spent about a total of 4 - 6 hours trying to rectify with everything I could think of / find on forums / tech dept told me to try. After spending such a large amount on that wireless headset and encountering those problems I was thinking of just reverting back to my TB Stealth’s. ![]() I bought these after having constant issues from new with the Turtle Beach Elite 800x which I sent back.
